Here at the Lancrigg, we have proudly developed a reputation as being the longstanding hotspot for visitors to Grasmere, we can now confidently offer premium accommodation at the heart of the Lake District. Not only is the hotel the prime location for some of the most delightful walks in Cumbria but also offers the chance to take in the village of Grasmere, described by William Wordsworth as ‘the loveliest spot that man hath ever found’.

Our hotel renovation and refurbishment

Our Grasmere hotel has been completely modernised, with all 10 bedrooms having been upgraded. Each room has been renovated with the addition of gas central heating and a new state of the art water system. The communal areas have been radically improved, creating a fantastic atmosphere. Not only that, but the quirky charm of the original Lancrigg hotel has been retained, with comfy seating available to take in the stunning views on offer. With this refurbishment, we have maintained our unique historical feel but also added luxuries and modern facilities.

The new Lancrigg Hotel has 10 modern and luxurious guest rooms, including two suites to accommodate families, and one room that is suitable for those with a physical disability. It will remain a family and dog-friendly establishment with four-legged companions still welcomed into the hotel. The beds are extremely comfortable and each room boasts an en-suite bathroom. Additionally, we have improved our car park, meaning it is much easier to park up and come and join our wonderful community of guests at the finest example of Grasmere accommodation.

Helm Crag Walk

The Lancrigg is the perfect place to stay if you are looking to access Helm Crag. Park at Lancrigg and embark on the delightful Helm Crag walk. The walk takes you through a wide range of landscapes, from the 30 acres of woodlands and gardens that surround the hotel to the rocky quarry paths towards the summit. Take in the stunning views down to Easedale as you ascend, and discover the Lion and the Lamb at the summit.

Walking from Lancrigg to Helm Crag takes in a moderate 3km return route, including a total height gain of 304 metres. The walk will take 1.5 hours, and as such is an ideal introduction to walking for children, and by choosing the Lancrigg, your children will be delighted with the refreshments and children’s play area that awaits them as a reward for their day’s walking exertions.

The newly opened Poet’s Bar at Lancrigg is the perfect place to eat after a long walk in the fells, and our Grasmere restaurant is one of the more popular in the area. Our stunning country house was regularly visited by William Wordsworth and is the home of some of his greatest works. Hire the house and gardens exclusively for a completely personal celebration in our beautiful Lake District wedding venue. Marry in the historic dining room, licensed for a civil ceremony of up to 50 guests, or move your ceremony to the terrace with the stunning Lakeland Fells as the perfect backdrop for your wedding photographs.
