Things to do on your weekend break in Grasmere

Grasmere is a wonderful destination for Lake District weekend breaks and packed with fantastic things to do. Whether you are travelling solo, part of a couple or within a family or friendship group, prepare to enjoy fresh experiences aplenty in this beautiful part of the world.

The great news, too, is that most attractions are in close proximity of the main hotels in Grasmere – most places to stay in the Like District have things to do which are easily accessible by foot, bike or local transport, so that you can relax rather than dashing about. Here are some of our favourites.

Dove Cottage

See the home of William Wordsworth, perhaps Britain’s most famous poet, and his sister Dorothy. A beautiful little rural cottage, it also displays Dorothy’s famous Grasmere Journal. If Wordsworth and his history are of particular interest, then take the time to see Allan Bank or Rydal Mount too, both of which the poet also called home.

Helm Crag Walk

This spectacular walk is perfect for a summer’s evening and a leisurely amble. From the top you can see a stunning panorama and the summit of the Lion and the Lamb.

Grasmere Lake

One of the smaller lakes of the area, Grasmere Lake is incredibly blue and beautiful. Perfect for walking, enjoying a boat ride and taking in some refreshment at a local tea house.

Grasmere Gingerbread Shop

The name says it all! This local hotspot is famous for the utterly delectable, spicy and warming gingerbread that it makes fresh on the premises. Pick up some of the unique delicacy and find out about its history as you browse.

Easedale Tarn

Enjoy your lunch next to this bubbling glacial river. A wonderful place to recharge and enjoy the incredible surroundings.

The Wordsworth Museum

Find out more about one of Britain’s most celebrated poets, discover his love affair with the Lake District and see interesting historical artefacts at this charming museum.

So, get your walking shoes on, your day bag ready and prepare to enjoy a fantastic weekend break in Grasmere!
